Knowing how to unlock VIP Rooms in Animal Crossing: New Horizons will help you, quite literally, reach the top of your Hotel.
The Resort Hotel was added to Animal Crossing: New Horizons as part of the 3.0 update. Along with eight basic rooms to decorate, you can also reach a VIP Room. However, you do need to put a bit of work into the Hotel first before this special room becomes available.

How to unlock VIP Rooms in Animal Crossing New Horizons
To unlock VIP Rooms in New Horizons, you need to complete rooms one to eight at the Hotel, which should take you 4 days (if you're not time travelling). Once you've completed Room Eight, return to the Hotel the next day and speak to Leilani to learn all about VIP rooms.
Animal Crossing New Horizons VIP Rooms explained
VIP Rooms in New Horizons are special rooms at the very top of your Resort Hotel that can be decorated once per day, and you'll be rewarded 200 Hotel Tickets for doing so.
When you want to do a VIP room, speak to Leilani and select the 'VIP Room' option. Then, you'll be able to invite one of your current guests to move to the VIP room for one real-world day.
Once you've invited them, you can choose a theme for the room or forgo the theme and decorate the room exactly how you want to. However, for your first VIP Room, you will have to choose a theme.
After you've made your choice, you'll head up to the VIP Room and it's time to get decorating! Just like basic rooms, the guests don't seem to care if you really deviate from a chosen theme or if you put together a very eclectic mix of furniture - the VIP Room is your blank canvas.
Once you've finished the room and the guest has moved in, they will stay there for one real-world day. After that day, Leilani will clear the entire room and you can start again with a new guest, new theme, and new ideas!
How to decorate VIP Rooms in Animal Crossing New Horizons
VIP Rooms in New Horizons can be decorated exactly the same as basic Hotel Rooms, with one minor difference. In a VIP Hotel Room you can press the left toggle down to imagine your guest in there while you decorate around them.
If they're in the way or you want to place them somewhere specific (like a Sofa), then highlight them and press 'A' to pick them up. Then, you can freely move them about and press 'A' to put them down.
Once you're happy with your design, speak to Leilani and select 'I'm done!' to finish off the room.
