Unlocking Expanded Inventory in Animal Crossing: New Horizons Made Simple

Understanding how to increase your inventory space in Animal Crossing: New Horizons allows you to carry more items while exploring your island.

As you discover more items and craft various tools in the game, you'll soon desire extra inventory space. Fortunately, achieving this isn't very complicated!

This guide explains how to upgrade your inventory space while also detailing the workings of your inventory.

How to Upgrade Inventory Space in New Horizons

To expand your inventory in New Horizons, you must first access the Nook Miles shop at the Nook Stop. This requires repaying the 5,000 Nook Miles you owe Tom Nook for your tent.

Upon repayment, you will unlock both your first house upgrade and the Nook Miles shop at Residential Services.

In this shop, you can purchase a vital item called the Pocket Organization Guide for 5,000 Nook Miles. This purchase will upgrade your inventory from 20 slots to 30.

It's highly advisable to make this your first purchase as it significantly aids your island development efforts.

For the second inventory expansion, you’ll first need to upgrade Residential Services.

After the Town Hall is established, visit the Nook Stop within it. You'll find an upgraded Nook Miles store offering a wider selection of items.

Your second and final inventory expansion can be purchased here, named Ultimate Pocket Stuffing, for 8,000 Nook Miles.

This upgrade increases your inventory space to 40 slots, enabling you to collect even more items.

Understanding Inventory in New Horizons

In New Horizons, your inventory is referred to as your pockets, where you store most of your items, including tools, materials, and caught fish or bugs.

Initially, you can carry just 20 items. As you progress, your inventory can expand to 30 and eventually to 40 slots.

These upgrades cost a total of 13,000 Nook Miles; ensure you unlock the purchasing capability before buying.

Your pockets also include a wallet that can hold up to 99,999 Bells. If your Bell count exceeds this, additional Bells will appear in your pockets as Bell Bags.

You can decide how many Bells to withdraw from your wallet in specific increments or to the nearest round total of what you currently possess.

Moreover, a special section in your inventory is designated for the clothes you're wearing. You can view and equip outfits by selecting the blue shirt icon next to your wallet.

This section allows for up to nine clothing slots, although equipping a new item in an existing slot will replace what you are currently wearing.

That's all for now! For additional assistance with New Horizons, check out our guide on increasing your house storage space.
