By completing these Field Research tasks, players can achieve unique rewards through Research Breakthroughs. Special Research tasks also reveal rare Pokémon, including the legendary Mythical Pokémon Mew.

January Field Research Tasks and Rewards

The January Field Research in Pokémon Go features a mix of recurring and fresh tasks.

Gathering insights from seven completed tasks provides players with January Research Breakthrough rewards, which include Galarian Mr. Mime, Lapras, Snorlax, Honedge, Sinistea, or Dreepy.

Catching Pokémon Tasks

  • Catch 7 Pokémon: Magikarp, Stufful, or Wimpod
  • Catch 5 Weather-Boosted Pokémon: Vulpix, Poliwag, Wingull, Hippopotas, Snover, Roggenrola, or Vanillite
  • Catch 7 Different Pokémon Species: Abra, Hoothoot, Karrablast, Shelmet, Inkay, Yungoos, or Stufful
  • Catch a Dragon-type Pokémon: Dratini, Bagon, or Axew
  • Catch 10 Fire-type Pokémon: 10 Mega Energy for Charizard or Blaziken
  • Catch 10 Grass-type Pokémon: 10 Mega Energy for Venusaur or Sceptile
  • Catch 10 Normal-type Pokémon: 10 Mega Energy for Pidgeot
  • Catch 10 Water-type Pokémon: 10 Mega Energy for Blastoise or Swampert

Buddy-Related Tasks

  • Earn 2 Candies with Buddy: Jigglypuff, Glameow, Buneary, Bunnelby, Litleo, or Dedenne
  • Earn 3 Candies with Buddy: Stunfisk or Galarian Stunfisk
  • Earn 7 Hearts with Buddy: Galarian Zigzagoon, Skitty, or Swablu
  • Give Buddy 3 Treats: Exeggcute, Chansey, or Dedenne
  • Snapshot of Buddy: Trapinch, Axew, or Niobat
  • Win a Raid with Buddy: Falinks

Poké Ball Tasks

  • Make 5 Nice Throws: Diglett, Alolan Diglett, or Sudowoodo
  • Make 3 Great Throws: Omanyte, Kabuto, Clamperl, Elgyem, or Binacle
  • Make 3 Great Throws in a Row: Lileep or Anorith
  • Make 5 Great Curveball Throws: Spinda (Form 6 or 7)
  • Make 2 Excellent Throws: Jangmo-o
  • Make 3 Excellent Throws in a Row: Larvitar, Beldum, or Gible

Egg-Related Tasks

  • Hatch an Egg: Scyther, Sudowoodo, Nincada, Slugma, Electrike, Numel, Feebas, Combee, Trubbish, or Sizzlipede
  • Hatch 2 Eggs: Sneasel, Mawile, or Feebas

Additional categories include Battle, Raid, Friend, and Snapshot tasks that yield various rare Pokémon.

Field Research Quests and Breakthroughs

Field Research tasks allow players to collect missions by spinning PokéStops and can include capturing specific Pokémon or battling. Each day, players can earn new quests, leading to exciting rewards through successful task completion.

Completing 7 tasks yields a Research Breakthrough, offering a chance to catch rare Pokémon without the risk of them fleeing. Notable items including Stardust, Rare Candy, and other useful supplies can be collected as well.
