Bafana Bafana Team Manager Vincent Tseka to Depart from SAFA in 2026
Tseka, who has recently raised concerns within the South African Football Association (SAFA), is set to leave his position following the 2026 FIFA World Cup, coinciding with the retirement of head coach Hugo Broos.
In an unexpected development, Tseka was offered a two-year contract extension in October, despite having reached the retirement age of 60.
The contract, which does not disclose his salary, states, “You are offered an appointment with effect from 01 October 2024 in the position of National Teams Manager,” highlighting Tseka's skills and experience.
However, it has been reported that SAFA CEO Lydia Monyepao issued this contract without consulting former technical director Walter Steenbok, an act that reportedly led to Steenbok's resignation and has resulted in the appointment of Molefi Ntseki as the new technical director.
Further scrutiny revealed that Tseka lacks a matric certificate, raising questions about his qualifications for the role. His contract outlines key responsibilities, including managing the strategic plan for national teams and overseeing training and logistical arrangements.
Despite these duties, Tseka fell short in one crucial aspect: tracking disciplinary records. A miscalculation regarding yellow cards in World Cup qualifiers resulted in player Teboho Mokoena missing a suspension, leading to a three-point deduction for Bafana Bafana and a penalty loss to Lesotho.
Fortunately, South Africa later secured qualification for the tournament, but internal discontent grows as many within SAFA label Tseka a “bungler.” He will exit alongside Broos, as the association looks towards a new era.
