Mamelodi Sundowns captain Themba Zwane is fit for AFCON selection.
Zwane returns after a minor injury kept him out of recent FIFA World Cup qualifiers. He sustained the injury during a Betway Premiership match against Magesi FC earlier this season.
The 36-year-old has been absent from the national team since experiencing an ACL injury during the AFCON qualifiers against Congo in October last year.
Due to the severity of his injury, Zwane missed the March, September, and October World Cup qualifiers. Fortunately, Bafana Bafana secured a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to take place in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Coach Hugo Broos previously hoped for Zwane's timely recovery for AFCON, and it appears that hope is now a reality—providing a significant boost for the team.
With AFCON scheduled to start on December 21, 2025, in Morocco, Zwane is optimistic about his readiness.
“One hundred percent,” he assured when asked about his fit status for the tournament.
Zwane indicated that he is fully healed and focusing on regaining his strength and match sharpness, stating, “I’m feeling good now. I’m alright — I can run without pain. Right now, it’s just about doing more strengthening work so I can be stronger. I’m looking forward to getting back on the pitch.”
Additionally, Bafana Bafana’s coach Hugo Broos is expected to announce the final squad for the upcoming international friendly against Zambia on Thursday.
The match is set for November 14, with the venue anticipated to be confirmed on the same day.
