Players in Arc Raiders have recently noticed an increase in the toughness of their opponents, possibly due to a new "aggression-based" matchmaking system implemented by Embark Studios.
In a recent interview, Patrick Söderlund from Embark confirmed that the studio has rolled out this system, which prioritizes player behavior in matchmaking. Players who engage more frequently in PvP and take aggressive actions are now paired with similarly aggressive players.
"Obviously, first it's skill-based, of course. Then you have solos, duos, and trios. And then we also - since a week ago or so - we introduced a system where we also matchmake based on how prone you are to PvP or PvE," Söderlund stated.
This change aims to create a more balanced gaming experience, where players who prefer cooperative play may find themselves matched with others who share the same interests. The specifics of what defines an 'aggressive' player, however, remain somewhat vague to prevent exploitation of the system.
This confirmation aligns with previous comments made by the game's art director, who noted that player behavior significantly influences the matchmaking process in this extraction shooter, a title that was Steam's top-selling game during the holiday season.
