Wattrel and Kilowattrel, its evolution, have flown into Pokémon Go.
These Electric and Flying-type Pokémon are part of Gen 9 and their names reflect their typing. While they may not be as exciting as other Pokémon in the game, such as Zapdos, they're still worth adding to your Pokédex.
Let’s explore how to catch Wattrel in Pokémon Go and how to evolve it into Kilowattrel, along with details on shiny Wattrel.
How to get Wattrel in Pokémon Go
Wattrel debuted during January 2026's High Zaptitude event.
Here's how to catch Wattrel during this event:
• In the wild
• Event-exclusive research task
The release of Wattrel is tied to the High Zaptitude Global Challenges. Players must complete the second Global Challenge to see this bird in-game. To check Wattrel's release status, visit the Global Challenge screen within the game.
Once available, it’s easiest to catch Wattrel in the wild, as it will be prioritized in the Pokémon radar until you catch your first one. Although the research task offers a good alternative, PokéStops change their tasks daily, which might delay your catch.
Make sure to catch at least one Wattrel before the High Zaptitude event ends to evolve it into Kilowattrel later! As of now, Wattrel’s spawn rates post-event remain uncertain, so catching it may become a challenge.
The High Zaptitude event is currently live, and you can catch Wattrel! Don't forget to keep track of the January events and raid schedules.
How to evolve Wattrel into Kilowattrel in Pokémon Go
You will need 50 Wattrel Candy to evolve Wattrel into Kilowattrel.
Using a Pinap Berry while catching new Pokémon doubles the candy you earn, making it easier to evolve Wattrel. Keeping Wattrel as your buddy will also allow you to earn candy passively.
Are Wattrel and Kilowattrel shiny in Pokémon Go?
No, shiny versions of Wattrel and Kilowattrel are not available in Pokémon Go at this time. You'll have to wait to add these shiny forms to your collection.
Both shiny forms feature similar designs, with dark feathers turning purplish-brown and the yellow feathers slightly darker. Not the most exciting shiny designs, but still noteworthy!
Good luck catching Wattrel in Pokémon Go!
