Hypixel Studios has announced that their highly anticipated game Hytale, which mirrors the world of Minecraft, has sold enough copies to support its development for the next two years before its official launch.
Since its inception in 2015, Hytale has attracted considerable interest, especially after League of Legends developer Riot Games invested significantly in the project and acquired Hypixel in 2020. However, last year, Riot's decision to halt development cast uncertainty over Hytale's future, prompting Hypixel to announce the winding down of its operations.
In a surprising twist, Hytale persevered. Hypixel co-founder Simon Collins-Laflamme revealed he had successfully acquired the game from Riot at the end of 2022. This turn of events appears to have reignited excitement for the game. As Hytale prepares for its early access launch on January 13, expectations are high, with Collins-Laflamme predicting one million players on opening day and urging prospective buyers to download the game's launcher in advance.
Collins-Laflamme shared that the significant number of pre-orders has assured the funding for Hytale's development. He stated on social media, "Pleased to announce that we have officially secured the next two years of development costs through pre-purchases. Combined with my personal commitment of ten years, we are looking very strong for the future." This news is undoubtedly a boost for both the early supporters and the studio as they strive to realize Hytale's full potential.
For those eager to participate in Hytale's early access, a variety of options are available with prices ranging from $23.99 for the standard edition to $83.99 for the Founder's Edition, which includes additional cosmetic items.
