Inno Morolong Launches Back-to-School Initiative for 2026 Learners in South Africa

As schools prepare to reopen next week, countless parents in South Africa are facing the burden of back-to-school expenses, with rising stationery prices amplifying their financial strain amidst high unemployment and living costs.

Amidst these challenges, reality TV star, entrepreneur, and philanthropist Inno Morolong has stepped in to provide a much-needed solution for families ahead of the 2026 academic year.

Morolong has initiated a Back to School Stationery Drive aimed at supporting learners from disadvantaged communities who may begin the school year lacking essential learning materials.

This initiative seeks to collect and distribute crucial items including exercise books, pens, pencils, rulers, crayons, and school bags to those in need.

The drive is especially significant given the ongoing economic struggles in South Africa, where the unemployment rate was estimated at 33.2% in the last quarter of 2025, with youth unemployment remaining a staggering 58.5%.

These economic pressures have left many parents unable to afford basic school necessities, particularly in families impacted by job loss, orphanhood, or those led by children.

While some public schools offer stationery assistance, many parents report that the support is often insufficient.

In addition, the soaring costs associated with school uniforms and supplies have exacerbated disparities, placing many learners at a disadvantage right from the start of the school year.

Morolong shared her motivation behind the initiative, underscoring the critical role of education in fostering long-term change.

“Many learners start the school year without the basic tools they need to succeed. This drive is about restoring dignity, confidence, and hope, one school kit at a time,” she stated.

The stationery drive is set to commence on Monday, January 5, with handovers planned for January 13 and 14, 2026, at selected schools and homes.

Morolong has committed to personally funding the project but has also invited public members, brands, and corporate partners to contribute by purchasing school supplies.
