Baby mobs have always been part of Minecraft, but they're about to get an even cuter makeover in an upcoming update. Mojang Studios recently unveiled a first look at its revamped baby mobs, which are currently undergoing testing. This update promises a fresh look for wolf pups, kittens, piglets, calves, baby chickens, ocelots, lambs, and baby rabbits, making them 'chunkier, floofier, and more charming than ever before.'
In the announcement video, game director Agnes Larsson noted that prior baby mobs were simply scaled-down versions of their adult counterparts. The new update will provide these young creatures with unique designs and entirely new sound recordings based on actual animals.
Larsen also highlighted a subtle change that gives the baby mobs a more youthful and inviting appearance. 'Typically, mobs in Minecraft have two-pixel eyes,' she explained. 'Now, baby mobs will have a single pixel for their eyes, creating a new, adorable vibe.'
The developers further shared that players will have the ability to name their baby mobs using craftable labels made from paper and any metal nugget. Players can start previewing these changes in the current Java snapshot and the Bedrock beta preview.
In December, Mojang released the Mounts of Mayhem update, allowing players to ride animals into combat and introducing various new features. Furthermore, Minecraft was recognized as one of the most popular games on the App Store in 2025, as reported by Apple.
