Recently, players of Monster Hunter Wilds on PC discovered a puzzling performance boost associated with having more downloadable content (DLC) installed. This phenomenon sparked discussions across the gaming community, leading many to believe that additional DLC was enhancing gameplay.
However, a detailed report by Digital Foundry has clarified the situation. The supposed performance improvement is not due to the DLC itself, but rather the frequency with which the game checks for DLC content. This checking process inadvertently burdens the CPU, as it performs these checks thousands of times within a short span.
The issue manifests primarily in the hub area near the Support Desk Felynes, where the constant checks significantly hinder performance, regardless of whether players own any DLC.
To address this problem, some players have created a mod that reduces the frequency of DLC checks. While this mod does not fix all performance-related issues in Monster Hunter Wilds, it alleviates this specific concern until Capcom can implement a more permanent solution.
Capcom previously indicated that an upcoming winter update would aim to tackle significant performance problems on PC. However, as of now, many issues remain unresolved, and the timeline for any fixes remains uncertain.
