Palworld: Official Card Game, a brand-new trading card game inspired by Pocketpair's creature-collecting adventure, has been unveiled by Bushiroad and developer Pocketpair. Scheduled for release on July 30, the game is already generating buzz among fans.
Bushiroad describes the Palworld: Official Card Game as a competitive, two-player experience where participants engage in strategic and tactical battles by deploying unique Pals to the battlefield. Players collaborate with their Pal companions to gather resources and build bases, all while aiming for victory. Each Pal comes equipped with distinctive traits, allowing for clever strategies to pave the way to success.
The initial murmurs about a Palworld trading card game began last year, following the acquisition of shares by Pocketpair and Animate subsidiary COS in Japanese card publisher Bushiroad. Takaaki Kidani, the CEO of Bushiroad Corporation, transferred his shares to the company.
In a larger context, Pocketpair has been embroiled in a lawsuit against Nintendo over similarities between Palworld and the Pokémon franchise. This controversy includes a cozy spinoff called Palworld: Palfarm, likened to Pokémon Pokopia. In response to Nintendo's concerns, Pocketpair has made adjustments to certain gameplay aspects in Palworld.
The legal battle has become more intricate, marked by a recent directive from the head of the United States Patent and Trademark Office to reevaluate Nintendo's registered patent concerning the fundamental gameplay mechanics of character summoning and combat in video games.
