Capcom's upcoming Resident Evil Requiem is set to deliver "an experience with an emotional range unlike any other Resident Evil title to date," as noted by the game's director, Koshi Nakanishi, who previously directed Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.
During a recent Resident Evil broadcast, Nakanishi shared insights into the gameplay dynamics of Requiem. Players will experience differing gameplay styles between the two main characters: Grace will focus more heavily on horror elements, whereas Leon's sections will lean towards action.
Nakanishi explained that Leon, a DSO agent since the events of Resident Evil 6, isn't the archetypal horror protagonist due to his fearless nature. He stated, "It may be a survival horror game, but I think we've made an experience that suits Leon," drawing parallels to the gameplay style of Resident Evil 4. He hinted that Requiem will likely push Leon to his limits, further complicating his already tumultuous journey.
The director emphasized that switching between Requiem's two leads will offer players a "huge sense of catharsis" once the game launches next month. The broadcast also showcased unique zombies retaining traits from their former lives, including one that continues to clean as a custodian despite its undead status. Nakanishi humorously noted, "I would have hoped one benefit of becoming a zombie would be I would no longer have to scrub my oven and such."
Resident Evil Requiem is set to release on PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S on February 27th. Following a sneak peek, our correspondent reported being startled enough by the gameplay to elicit screams audible in adjacent booths, hinting at an exciting experience ahead!
