Fallout has established itself as one of the top video game franchises globally, especially after the success of Amazon's TV adaptation. However, before Bethesda revitalized the series after acquiring it from Black Isle Studios and Interplay Entertainment, Fallout was not as well-known. Veteran actor Ron Perlman recently disclosed the surprisingly low payment he received for his voiceover work in the original game.
“They invited me to do the very first Fallout back in the 90s, I think. They gave me 40 dollars and a sandwich,” Perlman shared during an appearance on The Joe Vulpis Podcast. While he clearly recalled the specific amount, it's unclear if that was his entire compensation or merely an exaggeration to emphasize how little he was paid. The game's development faced multiple challenges and was viewed as a substantial risk by its original creators.
Ultimately, the RPG garnered critical acclaim and sold well enough to justify a sequel released in October 1998.
