As CD Projekt Red dives into the full development of The Witcher 4, set for a release that could take years, speculations are circulating about a new expansion for The Witcher 3. This potential content aims to keep players engaged while they wait for the next installment.
Reports from several outlets, including IGN Poland and Eurogamer, suggest that an expansion for The Witcher 3 could be on the horizon, marking the first major addition since the acclaimed Blood and Wine release in 2016.
Eurogamer's article also hints that this new content may be pushed by CD Projekt Red's desire to meet sales goals that would benefit the company's financial incentives program for employees. They noted during a 2025 investor call that new content might be released this year, potentially improving their earnings.
In terms of content, IGN Poland mentions that the expansion could introduce players to Zerrikania, described as an exotic desert region located to the east of the current game map. This aligns with previous lore, as the Zerrikanian Manticore School was referenced in Blood and Wine, opening avenues for deeper exploration of the Witcher universe.
At this point, however, the rumored expansion remains unconfirmed. CD Projekt Red has only announced one last significant update for The Witcher 3, aimed at enabling console players to access mods previously enjoyed by PC users. This update has been postponed to late 2025. Meanwhile, fans of the series can look forward to the conclusion of The Witcher Season 5 on Netflix in 2026.
