Ryan Hurst has been officially announced as the actor portraying Kratos in the highly anticipated live-action adaptation of God of War. The acclaimed actor, known for his role in Sons of Anarchy, expressed his excitement about stepping into the iconic role, saying he feels "grateful to pick up the axe."
In an Instagram post, Hurst reflected on his personal connection with the character, stating, "Used to play as him. Now I get to be him." He further added, "Grateful to pick up the axe, and honored by the fans who made this story legendary."
Hurst is no stranger to the franchise, having voiced Thor in God of War Ragnarok. The upcoming TV series is expected to delve into the intricate relationship between Kratos and his son Atreus, continuing the narrative established in the 2018 God of War and its sequel. Details regarding the actor cast as Atreus, along with other roles, are yet to be revealed. Filming for the series is reportedly set to commence in Vancouver this March, with more casting announcements likely to follow.
Leading the project is Ronald D. Moore, renowned for his work on Battlestar Galactica, who serves as the showrunner, executive producer, and writer. The series is a collaborative effort of Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, in association with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions.
Frederick E.O. Toye, known for his work on The Boys and Fallout, will be directing the first two episodes. Though no release date has been confirmed yet, the series will be available exclusively on Prime Video, which is also producing a live-action adaptation of Tomb Raider featuring Sophie Turner.
Meanwhile, the God of War game series continues to captivate players, although no new titles have yet been announced.
