2025 has marked the worst year on record for Xbox console sales in the UK.
This information comes from Chris Dring, who reported a striking 39 percent drop in Xbox console sales, declaring it 'comfortably the worst year on record.' In comparison, Sony's PS5 system sales showed a decline of about 12 percent during the same timeframe.
While Dring did not provide details on global comparisons, this trend aligns with broader reports suggesting that all major hardware manufacturers—Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft—are experiencing year-on-year declines. Notably, Xbox sales in the US appear to have decreased by a staggering 70 percent, attributed in part to two rapid price hikes.
Despite the sales slump, Microsoft's focus seems to shift towards software and services, particularly boosting their Game Pass subscription and expanding first-party games to competing platforms. This could offer some hope for returning fans.
The situation is deepened by layoffs, canceled game projects, and concerns surrounding the iconic Call of Duty series struggling in the current market landscape.
Nevertheless, Matt Booty, Microsoft's president of game content and studios, has announced an upcoming Dev Direct stream, suggesting a promising lineup of updates, including information on the anticipated Fable game and the Forza Horizon series.
